188 Ghanaians are on Trump’s deportation list – Ablakwa confirms

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okuzeto Ablakwa has confirmed that one hundred and eighty-eight (188) Ghanaians are on the U.S President Donald Trump’s deportation list.

According to him, the government of Ghana is cooperating with the U.S authorities to ensure that the affected Ghanaians are brought back home safely.

“In terms of deportation, we are cooperating well with the U.S authorities, so far, we have been formally notified that 188 Ghanaians are currently on Donald Trumps’ deportation list. And our embassies in New York and Washington have been complied with our counterpart in the United States.” Ablakwa made this confirmation during a press conference on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

He added that the government has raised concerns that the U.S authority should notify them of their final departure from the States so that the Ghanaian authorities of the Ministry of Interior, Immigration Service, NADMO can welcome them at the airport.

Ablakwa stated that it is essential to welcome them and integrate them because many will lose their belongings and savings as part of the deportation processes.

“The only concerns we have raised is that we should be notified when the final airlift is done so that we will be at the airport to welcome our citizens and comfort them. And I can confirm to you that working with our counterpart with the Ministry of Interior, Immigration Service, NADMO, we will work together and welcome them so that they are properly integrated.” He stressed.

According to him, the U.S deportation is the same process every country carries out including Ghana if a foreigner violates the country’s laws.

“Just as we also have every right to deal with those who violate our laws, and we are aware that Ghana carries out deportations every now and then and even prosecute some foreigners who disobey our laws. So we know that every country has the right to carry out these sanctions.”
