Former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority Gifty Oware Mensah has been detained by the National Investigation Bureau.
According to a report, Gifty Oware was detained on Friday, 7th March, 2025 in connection with an investigation into ghost names in the National Service Payroll.
Report says former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu signed for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member to be granted bail but she was denied bail.
Reports also suggested that her Lawyers tried to secure a bail for her but it proved unsuccessful and her whereabouts is still unknown.
Gifty Oware is not the only person who has been arrested after President John Dramani directed the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to immediately conduct an investigation into the operations of the National Service Authority (NSA) following the discovery of 81,885 suspected ghost names on its payroll.
Ohene Djan was picked up earlier as well as former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF), Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi who later granted bail.
Gifty Oware who was accused of running away from the country after the 2024 elections arrived in Ghana on Tuesday, March 5, 2025.
Some believe her voluntary return from holidays showed her confidence and willingness to assist investigation into the NSS ghost-name scandal.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has directed authorities to declare culprits of the National Service Scheme (NSS) ghost-name scandal wanted and free their assets until investigations are done.
Reports say some people who are involved in the National Service Scheme (NSS) ghost-name scandal have left Ghana for their hidden countries after the president’s directive.
President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government have vowed to fight corruption in the country hence the introduction of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
