The Minister of Energy, John Jinapor has said there is no need to publish a load-shedding time table as the Minority caucus in Parliament and other citizens are demanding.
According to him, the state has enough power and is able to export some to the neighbouring countries so the demand for load-shedding timetable is muted.
The Minority on Monday, March 3, 2025 raised concerns about power situations in the country and called on the government to publish a load-shedding timetable.
But speaking at a press briefing on the state of the energy sector, the Minister admitted that the system is fragile and very weak but the government is working assiduously to procure enough fuel and pay power suppliers to hold the system.
“This gas processing plant will augment the shot form and increase supply security. Today, let me put on record that we are not shedding load. And so the demand by the minority and some people that we publish a load-shedding time table is mute. When you are not shedding load, there is no need to publish a load-shedding time table.” John Jinapor stated.
“In fact, as we speak, we are exporting about 3oo-megawatts of power outside Ghana to Burkina SONABEL, Benin and to other neighbouring countries. And so when you have enough and you are exporting power, obviously, there will be no need to publish a time-table. Admittedly, the system is very fragile and very weak but we have been working around the clock to procure enough fuel and to make some payment to power suppliers in order to hold the system.” The Minister admitted.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Yapei-Kusawgu constituency also announced that the government has successfully negotiated with Bridge Power Co. Ltd to start operations.
Bridge Power Co. Ltd stopped operations due to ECG’s $47M debt.
“It is true that Bridge Power, one of the Independent Power producers shut their operations because of mounting liabilities that have not been paid over the mount but we were able to negotiate with them and I am happy to announce to you that they are back online.” He announced.
