Details and names of 16 students, 1 lecturer suspended by UG over drugs, harassment, misconduct

 

In order to uphold integrity & discipline on University of Ghana Legon campus, the authorities have published names of students and staff sanctioned for various misconducts. The list includes suspensions, dismissals & other penalties after disciplinary actions.

The University in a statement issued by the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah said “reference is made to the decision of the Academic Board that the names of employees and students sanctioned for disciplinary misconduct should be published.”

The following have recently been sanctioned for various offenses as listed.

NAME:    

  1. Francis Abdul Razak

OFFENSE:

Engaging in plagiarism in contravention of statute 41(1)(d) of the University of Ghana statutes, 2012, Regulation 3.39(1)(iv) of University of Ghana Handbook for Master’s degree Programmes and Regulations governing Graduate Study and University Examinations, 2014 and Rules 6.2(1) and (iii) of the University of Ghana Plagiarism policy, 2016.

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

Suspension for two (2) academic years in accordance with section 45(1)(g) of the University of Ghana.
The thesis failed in accordance with section 45 (1)(c) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana, 2011(as amended)
Student permitted to apply for re-admission and granted waiver of coursework to repeat thesis component.

2. Catherine Enwuulu

OFFENSE

Conspiracy, aiding or abetting a colleague to falsely evidence for University residential registration requirements contrary to Section 42(1)(0) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana 2011(as amended).
Failing to observe orders made by University authorities contrary to Regulation 7.1(e) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members 2017

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

Permanently expelled from Akuafo Hall in accordance with the accommodation rules of the Hall

NAME

3. Eunice Dickson

OFFENSE

Buying and occupying an already assigned/allocated bed of another student on or about the beginning of the 2022/2023 academic year contrary to Statutes 42(1)(1) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana, 2011(as amended) and Regulation 7.11(c)(xii) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members 2017
Knowingly using falsified room registration documents with the intent to evade residential registration requirements of the University contrary to Statutes 41(1)(a) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana, 2011(as amended) and Regulation 7.11(a)(i) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members 2017.

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

Permanently expelled from Akuafo Hall in accordance with the accommodation rules of the Hall.

4. Brown Kevi Kubiti Kwasi

OFFENSE

Misconduct contrary to Statutes 42(1)(a),42(1)(c) and 42(1)(0) of the University of Ghana Statute 2011 (as amended) for:

– acting together with other students to assault or threaten to assault other students that resulted in the clashes between students of Commonwealth Hall and Mensah Sarbah Hall and

– creating a condition that unnecessarily endangered the safety of others.

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

Suspension for two (2) academic years in accordance with section 45(1)(g) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana.

– creating a condition that unnecessarily endangered the safety of others.

OFFENSE

  1. Possessing narcotics contrary to regulation 7.11(f)(i) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members,2017
  2. Misconduct contrary to Regulation 7.1(e) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members, 2017 for submitting false details to security personnel

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

Suspension from the University for a period of two(2) academic years in accordance with section 45(1)(g) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana.

14. Victus Edem Adzaho

OFFENSE

  1. Unlawfully residing at Commonwealth Hall contrary to regulation 7.11(c)(xii) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members, 2017
  2. Possessing narcotics contrary to regulation 7.11(f)(i) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members,2017
  3. Misconduct contrary to Regulation 7.1(e) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members, 2017 for refusing to submit student details and for submitting false student details to security personnel
  4. Unlawful gathering without written approval contrary to Regulation 7.1(e) of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members, 207

Suspension for two (2) academic years in accordance with section 45(1)(g) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana

NAME

15. Wahid Mohammed

OFFENSE

Possessing narcotics contrary to regulation 7.11(f)(1) of the University of Ghana Regualtions for Junior Members, 2017

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

Suspended from the University for a period of one (1) academic year in accordance with section 45(1)(g) of the Statutes of the University of Ghana.

NAME

16. Boison Norbert

OFFENSE

Possessing narcotics contrary to regulation 7.11(f)(1) of the University of Ghana Regualtions for Junior Members, 2017.

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

  1. To sign a written undertaking to be of good behaviour and not to engage in any other similar conduct.
  2. To undergo a programme of counselling

NAME (STAFF)

17. Dr. Sampson Obed Appiah

OFFENSE

Sexual harassment contrary to Section 1.1 (A) of the Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy and Section 10.0 of the Code on Conduct for Academic Staff.

SANCTIONS/DECISIONS

  1. Issue a formal written apology to the complaint.
  2. Suspension from the University for two semesters: the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year and the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year.
  3. Barred from submitting an application for promotion to the next highest grade for one year following the end of the suspension period.
  4. To undergo training on sexual harassment and misconduct, to be conducted by the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee

The sanctions are in line with Section 15.0 of the Code of Conduct for Academic Staff.

The statement added that “Members of the University community are advised to familiarize themselves befitting members of our community”
