The Minority in Parliament has accused National Security operatives who raided the house of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison of stealing money sum GH₵10,000 in his bedroom.
They also accused the National Security Operatives of stealing Dr. Addison’s wife’s earrings and necklaces.
Addressing the media, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin described the raid as a Rambo-style and called on the government to stop intimidating former appointees with the National Security Operatives.
He said this is the first time Ghana has experienced such a thing.
“According to Jakpa, he had a warrant to search Mr. Addison at 5:am at his Roman Ridge residence. Again, when Dr. Addison enquired from him, he told him that he was looking for a vault which to them the man has some money (cash) in it. They forced their way, overpowered his security and entered his premises, this Rambo-style approach must cease.” He said.
The Member of Parliament for Efutu constituency believes that the National Security Operatives are NDC foot soldiers who are hungry and so they used the opportunity to steal the money.
“This is the first time in the history of our country that a Governor of a Central Bank is being subjected to such a treatment. In fact at the end of their raid, they could not find anything, unfortunately for the Governor, some ten thousand (GH₵10,000) on his bed could not be found. So some of these hungry foot soldiers they used who parade themselves as National Security operatives, perhaps not even being paid and they used this opportunity to steal.” Afenyo Markin stated.
“The governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also missing, in other words, these operatives stole the earrings and necklaces. Ghana is a matured democracy, and we should do better.” He added.
