Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in collaboration with the Ghanaian-European Centre and European labour institutions have launched the Work Abroad Programme.
The programme is aimed at providing structured employment opportunities for Ghanaian professionals, artisans and skill workers.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of YEA, Malik Basintale, the programme is one of the topmost priority of President John Dramani Mahama to tackle youth unemployment.
He said the government has put measures in place to create a conducive environment in the country to ensure that the Ghanaian youth who will get the opportunity to travel abroad return.
“The work abroad programme is more than a migration opportunity, it is a top priority of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the government of Ghana to tackle youth unemployment through innovative structured and dignified pathways to strategic labour to enhance labour export.” He said.
“In collaboration with our partners, we shall be unlocking the doors of Ghanaian professionals, artisans and skill working to showcase their expertise on the global stage. We are committed to exporting not just labour but Ghanaian excellence.” Malik Basintale added.
He promised that the government will do everything possible to ensure that the Ghanaian youth who travel abroad are protected.
“As we launch this initiative today, we affirm our duty to protect the welfare of every Ghanaian youth who will get the opportunity presented by the Work Abroad Programme.” He said.
He called on all stakeholders to join hands together and support YEA to ensure the success of the programme.
“In conclusion, I extend the call on all stakeholders both in the private and public sectors to join hands with the Youth Employment Agency as we roll out this transformative programme.”
YEA boss expressed his appreciation to the previous government for building a good foundation for the progress of YEA.
“I wish to thank my predecessors for the solid foundation they laid towards making this day possible. Together, we can make the Work Abroad Programme a success.” He concluded.
