Tanoboase Father Martin R/C Basic School has successfully climaxed the 2025 Catholic Education Week celebrations with a grand durbar.
The week-long celebrations, held under the theme ”The Catholic Teacher, a Good Shepherd in Our Contemporary Time” aimed to highlight the role of Catholic education and reaffirm Father Martin’s Catholic School as one of the best in the Techiman North District, showcasing its remarkable growth and commitment to academic excellence.
During the grand durbar, learners impressed the gathering with their performances in choreography, poetry recitals, drama, cultural dances, news casting, and more. The school’s management also honored individuals who have contributed to uplifting the school’s image since its establishment
On behalf of the Chiefs of Tanoboase, the Tanoboase Akwamuhene, Nana Efa Danso, praised both the learners and facilitators of the school for their efforts in organizing the week-long celebrations, describing the events as extraordinary.
Nana Efa Danso used the occasion to advise the youth of Tanoboase and Techiman at large to focus on their education and desist from engaging in social vices to secure their future. He also urged parents to support the school whenever the need arises.
“We are impressed by the activities the learners have undertaken today. Although this is not the first time they have organized such a program, what we have witnessed today is truly exceptional.
“The strong relationship between the learners and facilitators, as well as their outstanding performances, clearly demonstrate that the school has a bright future.
“I want to use this opportunity to urge parents to support the school whenever the need arises. I also advise the youth to focus on their education and stay away from hard drugs and other social vices. Education is the key to a successful future, and young people must take it seriously to secure a better tomorrow.” He stated
The Headmaster of Father Martin R/C Primary School, Mr. Peter Agyiri, disclosed that the celebrations, which were launched last Sunday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Tanoboase, aimed to demonstrate to the people of Tanoboase and Techiman North at large that the school is one of the best in the district.
“It was a week long celebrations, beginning last Sunday with a launch at St. John’s Catholic Church in Tanoboase. On Monday, we organized a route march to raise awareness, followed by several activities that have culminated in today’s grand durbar.
“Through these celebrations, we are demonstrating to the people of Tanoboase and Techiman at large that Father Martin’s Catholic School is one of the best schools in the district.
Mr. Agyiri expressed gratitude to the St. John’s Catholic Church, Tanoboase Traditional Council, the community, and philanthropist Mr. Osie Asibey, for their immense contributions to the school’s development.
“We are deeply grateful to St. John’s Catholic Church, the Tanoboase Traditional Council, the local community, and philanthropist Mr. Osie Asibey, who has significantly supported the school in many ways.” He said.
He continued, “Thanks to the intervention of the church and our traditional leaders, the school’s population has grown tremendously. We now have KG 1A and 1B with different teachers, as well as KG 2A and 2B, also with different teachers. By next year, we hope to introduce Basic 1A and 1B, each with its own teacher.
“The church and traditional leaders’ vision to establish a crèche has been highly successful, and we are truly grateful.”
Despite the school’s achievements, Mr. Agyiri noted that a major challenge remains the lack of proper restroom facilities. He therefore called on stakeholders to support the construction of a suitable restroom for the school.
“Our major challenge, however, is the lack of proper restroom facilities. We hope to raise funds to construct a well-equipped washroom for both male and female learners, as well as a separate one for teachers.” He told our reporter.
The first headmaster of Fr. Martin R/C JHS, Mr. Asamoah Kennedy, who served the school for 17 years, highlighted its track record of academic excellence while encouraging parents to motivate their children to participate in extracurricular activities, as these help develop learners’ cognitive abilities.
“During my 17 years as the headteacher of St. Martin’s JHS, the school achieved significant success. Under my leadership, we established a cashew farm and an ICT laboratory.
“Academically, the school attained a 100% pass rate in the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and in my final year in 2023, we achieved a 98% pass rate.
“I encourage parents to motivate their children to participate in school programs like this, as such activities help develop their cognitive abilities.” Asamoah Kennedy First Headmaster for the JHS School.” He said
Dismissing recent rumors about the school’s decline, Oheneba Amisary Gyarko, an elder of the Tanoboase St. John Catholic Church, emphasized the school’s rapid growth.
“The rumors that Father Martin’s school is collapsing are false. Not long ago, the school had a population of 70 to 80 students, but currently, enrollment has risen to over 300 to 400. This clearly shows that the school is expanding more than ever,” he stated.
He further assured the community that the church remains fully committed to supporting the school and strengthening its reputation.
“The church is fully committed to supporting the school and enhancing its reputation. Catholic education is among the best in the world, and Father Martin’s school is no exception. Therefore, the claim that the school is collapsing is entirely false, and we urge everyone to treat that information with the contempt it deserves.” He said.
