I don’t manage artists – D-Black clarifies

Ghanaian musician and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of record label “Black Avenue Muzik”, Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, known by his stage name D-Black has revealed the role he plays for the record label.

According to him, he doesn’t manage artists as many people think.

Responding to challenges in managing female artists and allegations that he takes advantage of the female artists he manages to the extent that he gives some of the female artists to men for money, D-Black stated the allegations are false.

He explained to Nana Romeo on Class Fm that he is just the record label owner and assigned people to manage the artists for him.

“The thing is I don’t manage artists, there is somebody who manages the artist on my behalf, so I am not doing a day to day, running around to see the person everyday. There are people who do that so I am not an artist manager. I am a record label owner and I assign people to work for me.” D-Black explained.

“Black Avenue Muzik”, label includes, D-Black himself,  DJ Breezy, S3fa, and music producers Rony Turn Me Up and Paul Noun

Many people believe it is difficult to manage female artists by male artist managers due to persistent discrimination and stereotypes that often lead to women being judged based on looks rather than talent, hindering their advancement .

One outspoken artist manager who has raised this concern is former Shatta Wale manager, Bullgod.

According to the CEO of Bullhaus Entertainment, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod for a male to manage a female artist successful, the person has to date the artiste before he can control her,

He said female artists are difficult to manage due to their emotions and feelings.
