Chelsea FC captain, Reece Lewis James has express his excitement ahead of this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
The tournament, scheduled to be played in the United States of America from June 14 to July 13, 2025, will be the first under an expanded format with 32 teams, including the winners of the four previous continental championships
The 25-year-old righ-back believes that the tournament will be a special occasion for both the club and its fans. According to him, playing in the FIFA Club World Cup will be both an advantage and a test for the London based team, as Chelsea will take on teams from various continents.
“Excited? Everyone at the club is excited,” James said. “The best players want to play against the best. It should be an exciting tournament.”
“Yes, I think that could work in our favour, but it could be difficult as well, because we’re used to playing against teams in and around Europe. So, the style is going to be different, how they prepare, how they set up; it will be tough.” He said
Reece James further revealed that Chelsea will aim to win the tournament. He stated that the team has an amazing squad and believes they have what it takes to lift this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
“Yeah, I think it’s great to interact with fans across the US and outside the UK. We do a little bit of it during pre-season, so it’s great to be back and competing for an actual competition and trophy.”
“The goal for any competition is to win. We have an amazing squad, amazing team, amazing manager, and our goal is to win.
“I think any trophy of this significance is a huge honour for the club and, obviously, the first time would go down in history.” He stated
ReeceJames has endured a difficult few seasons due to persistent injury problems. Last year, he was limited to just 11 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions.
His struggles continued into this season, with two separate hamstring-related spells on the side-lines.
However, he has now returned to full fitness and quickly regained form, earning an England recall under former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
James is expected tofeature for Chelsea on April 3, 2025, at Stamford Bridge when they host Tottenham Hotspur.
