Ghanaian media personality, Blessed Godsbrain Smart widely known as Captain Smart has charged President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government to prioritise the fight against illegal mining, popularly called galamsey.
According to him, the galamsey menace under the current administration is worse and it will be difficult to win the fight against illegal mining.
Speaking on Onua TV, Captain Smart called on the government to be proactive else the country will suffer.
“The galamsey is still ongoing and from the look of things it will be difficult to stop them now. “I want to see action because listening, COCOBOD has a problem, Ghana water has a problem, Ghana Police has a problem, all of us have a problem but the galamsey is still going on.” He lamented.
The outspoken journalist revealed that National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives are now leading the galamsey champion.
According to him, they have taken over all the forest reserves, and he strongly believes that it will be difficult for the government to stop the illegal mining.
“That is why the galamsey has not been stopped. The NDC executives are in the forest engaging in illegal mining, who doesn’t know? I am saying it. I fought galamsey in the previous administration and I was arrested five (5) times but I am sitting here today to say NDC executives and doing illegal mining. The National Democratic Congress leaders, constituency executives, are now in the forest doing illegal mining.” Captain Smart stated.
“When you are going to Kumasi, right from Linda Dor, they are busy mining on the left and right sides of the road, am I lying? Galamsey is still ongoing in Prestea, am I lying? People are depleting the forest we are trying to protect, excavators are currently in all the forest reserves, Why?” He added.
