Private Legal Practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has raised concern over the 40th birthday celebration of the Founder of Bills Micro-Credit, Richard Nii Armah Guaye.
According to him, the birthday celebration was too excessive.
The business mogul celebrated his lavish 4oth birthday at the Independence Square, Accra. The birthday celebration which has been described as one of the biggest birthday celebrations in Africa brought together many dignitaries.
Celebrities from many countries graced the occasion to express their love for the billionaire. It alleged that Nii Armah Quaye spent a whopping $2m on his birthday celebration.
Reacting to this, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw stated that spending a lot of money like this while your community and masses of Ghanaians are suffering is not good but it is his own choice.
According to him, Ghanaians hate to see someone showing off a lot of money while people are suffering.
“What Ghanaians hate is when a large number of people are suffering and the few people who are rich are displaying cash. Looking at how people are suffering from poverty especially Ga, where you are coming from…..It is your choice, you made the money yourself but I think that the celebration was too excessive.” He said.
The outspoken Lawyer indicated that it becomes marvelous when someone you know very well acquires wealth at his youthful age and showing off.
“The 40th anniversary, celebration of a rich man in Ghana and the level of popularity, I have not seen this before. A young boy who is at the age of 40, some of us know him from child birth and where he was staying. How he started his life, his marital issues and others and now he has acquired wealth. His companies are still an ongoing concern.” Maurice Ampaw added.
His comment comes at the time Richard Nii Armah Quaye is facing personal income tax assessment by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
