Will the Chief Justice survive? – Kwesi Pratt reacts to petitions seeking Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo’s removal

The Managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwasi Pratt Jnr has reacted to petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.

Statement issued by Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu dated Tuesday, 26th March, 2025 said President John Dramani Mahama has received three (3) petitions from different individuals seeking the removal of the Chief Justice.

The statement stated that the President has forwarded the petitions to the Council of State to begin the consultation process.

“President Mahama has receive three (3) petitions from various persons seeking the removal of Chief Justice. Presdent has forwarded the three (3) petitions to the Council of State to commence the consultation process mandated by Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.” The statement read.

Reacting to this, Kwesi Pratt questioned how the future of the Chief Justice will  be.

According to him, it is not usual for a president to receive petitions from separate persons to seek for the Chief Justice removal.

“Will the Chief Justice survive?” He asked

“FOUR #PETITIONS! It is not usual for the #President to receive four petitions for the #removal of the #Chief #Justice of #Ghana within four months. Indeed, this is the very first time that this has happened in our history and something must explain it.” Kwesi Pratt wrote.

The veteran Journalist also asked what the Chief Justice did to deserve that.

“What has the Chief Justice done or not done to provoke so many petitions against her stewardship? Felix Ofosu-Kwakye (@FelixKwakyeOfo1), the spokesperson of the President (@JDMahama) has in an #official statement said that three of the petitions have been referred to the #Council of #State obviously to kick start the impeachment process. ” He added.
