In a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces and signed by the Director General of Public Relations, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, it was reported that at approximately 17:53 hours, seven armed individuals boarded the vessel and fired warning shots, forcing several crew members to take cover in a secure area. The pirates remained onboard for about three hours, during which they assembled the crew on deck and confiscated their mobile phones.

The assailants remained on board for about three hours, during which they gathered the crew on deck and confiscated their mobile phones.

After the attackers left, the crew emerged from hiding only to discover that the Captain, Chief Mate, and Chief Engineer—all Chinese nationals—were missing and are suspected to have been kidnapped. Due to a lack of mobile network coverage at sea, the crew had to sail closer to land before they could report the incident.

The vessel has since safely docked at Tema Fishing Harbour, and the rest of the crew is confirmed to be safe. The Marine Police and Naval Intelligence personnel from the Eastern Naval Command have conducted initial interrogations, verifying the attack and the suspected abduction.

In response to the incident, information has been shared with neighboring countries through the ECOWAS Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone F in Accra, as part of the Yaoundé Architecture for maritime security. This measure is intended to alert regional authorities to monitor and track the suspected pirates.

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies are actively working to locate and secure the release of the kidnapped crew members.

The Ghana Armed Forces, through the Ghana Navy, have reiterated their commitment to protecting Ghana’s territorial waters and ensuring the safety of both local and foreign vessels operating in the country’s maritime domain.

Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, confirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.“All efforts are being made by intelligence agencies to locate and free the kidnapped crew members,” he assured.

The Ghana Navy, in collaboration with regional security partners, continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as investigations progress.
