Manchester City FC is poised for a significant transformation this summer, with reports indicating that key players Ilkay Gündoğan, Jack Grealish, and Kevin De Bruyne may depart the club.
Ilkay Gündoğan, 34, rejoined City on August 23, 2024, on a one-year deal set to expire in June 2025.
Since returning to the Sky Blues, the German midfielder is yet to score a goal for Manchester City in the English Premier League. However, he has provided three assists in the 25 EPL games he has featured in so far.
Gündoğan has registered 2 goals in 10 UEFA Champions League games this season. Despite making 36 appearances in all competitions this season, the midfielder’s future remains uncertain as he approaches free agency.
The 29-year-old English international, Jack Peter Grealish, has faced challenges in securing a regular starting position under Pep Guardiola.
He joined Manchester City on August 5, 2021, on a six-year deal. Over the past four years, Grealish has made 152 appearances for Guardiola’s side, scoring just 16 goals. This season, the Englishman only has two goals and five assists in 26 matches across all competitions.
The £100 million midfielder made a brief appearance off the bench in the second half, playing just 21 minutes, his first outing since a short spell against Tottenham on February 27.
With limited Premier League starts over the past two seasons, speculation about his departure has intensified. Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as a potential destination, though Grealish’s substantial £300,000 per week wages could pose a hurdle.
33-year-old Belgian professional footballer, Kevin De Bruyne, 33, is also at a crossroads. While reports suggest he desires to remain at City for another year to participate in Belgium’s 2026 World Cup campaign, the club appears open to offers for the midfielder. Interest from the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer has been noted, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his tenure at the Etihad.
