Interior Minister renews curfew hours on Walewale and its environs

 

The Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has renewed the curfew hours on Walewale and its environs in the North East Region from 10: 00 pm to 4: 00 am.

The new directive takes effect from Monday, March 31, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Minister in Accra 0n Monday March 31, 2025 said the decision follows advice from North East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument

“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has renewed the curfew hours on Walewale and its environs in the North East Region from 10: 00 pm to 4: 00 am, effective Monday, March 31, 2025.”  The Member of Parliament for Asewase constituency in the Ashanti Region said.

The Minister called on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to be patient as the government is working assiduously to restore peace in the area.

The government also entreated the people in the area to desist from violent activities and cooperate to ensure peace in the area.

“Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.” Part of the statement read.

He reaffirmed a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons.

According to him, any person found guilty with the use of my arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.” The statement added.
