Manchester City manager, Josep “Pep” Guardiola Sala, has revealed that star striker Erling Braut Haaland will be out for five to seven weeks due to an ankle injury injury.
The Norwegian goal poacher sustained the injury during Manchester City’s 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth on Sunday.
The setback will rule the 24-year-old out for most of the rest of the domestic campaign. He will miss their FA Cup semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest as well as several Premier League matches. However, Pep Guardiola has hinted that the prolific forward could return in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.
“Sometimes there are years where these kind of things happen and it’s happened all season.
“All the injuries that we’ve had this season. I’m so sorry for them and for Erling as well. We want him to recover as quickly as possible and come back.
“The doctors told me between five and seven weeks, so hopefully for the end of the season and FIFA Club World Cup he will be ready.” He said
Despite City falling out of Premier League title contention this season, Haaland has continued his lethal form in front of goal.
He has 30 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions this season, with only Robert Lewandowski (38), Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane (both 33) and Mohamed Salah (32) netting more among all players from Europe’s top five leagues.
January signing Omar Marmoush will likely play as a striker in Haaland’s absence, as City aim to win the FA Cup and finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Manchester City, as the reigning UEFA Champions League winners, will compete in the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled to take place from Saturday, June 14, 2025, to Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the United States. Haaland’s return would provide a significant boost to their chances of securing another major title.
With City already managing several injuries in their squad, all eyes will be on Haaland’s recovery as the club aims to maintain its dominance on multiple fronts. Guardiola and his medical staff will be monitoring the striker closely, hoping for a swift and complete return to action.
