Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs and Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda constituency, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim has endorsed the construction of the National Cathedral for Ghana.
According to him, the National Cathedral was demonized to the extent that people can not comment about the positive aspects of it.
“The National Cathedral, we demonized it to a point that even if there is anything proper in it you can’t say, and the starting was even problematic so it is something if you are talking about it and you don’t take care, you create problems for yourself. So let’s wait for the audit findings and the engagements we have had to come out and see the way forward.” The sector Minister made this confession on Adom TV.
According to the Pentecost Elder, he was using his money to support building of church missions and other things needed for the growth of the church.
When the host presenter asked him “But do you think as a nation, we need the National Cathedral, on your personal view? The sector Minister responded “Akwasi, in my personal view if I had my own money, I would build the National Cathedral for the state.”
“Let me tell you, I am a Christian and Elder to be precise, when you go to my constituency, it is something I am part of doing. Roman Catholic Church, I gave them 3000 blocks from my own pocket to build their mission house. These are what I use my money for. Assemblies 3000 blocks, Pentecost, 4ooo blocks, Apostolic 3000 blocks, Presbyterians, almost all the churches. I also bought a private car for Methodist church and Pentecost. ” Hon. Ahmed Banda stated.
Commenting on the amount of money spent on the National Cathedral by the previous administration, the Minister said he is waiting for auditors reports.
“I have held a meeting with stakeholders who are involved in the National Cathedral building and we have vowed to speak out the truth to each other. There is auditing going on and it is not done so why should we preempt? The auditing is not done so I can’t put anything out there.” He stated.
Meanwhile, it is alleged that the NPP government spent $58 million on the National Cathedral but could not complete the project.
