Okudzeto Ablakwa invites US Ambassador to Ghana to provide reasons for the 10% tariff on Ghana

 

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has invited the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer for clarification of the 10% tariff on Ghana.

According to the Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, the meeting will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025 at his office.

Hon. Ablakwa said it is imperative for the Ambassador to provide clarifications and reasons behind the US President’s decision to impose a 10% tariff on Ghana.

“I can confirm that I have invited US Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer to my office on Monday morning to provide clarifications and reasons for President Trump’s imposition of 10% tariff on Ghana.” The Foreign Affairs Minister confirmed on X.

Hon. Ablakwa’s bold step comes after President Donald Trump imposed a 10% tariff on Ghana and other countries.

Trump’s draconian tariff imposition includes 34% levy on Chinese imports and a 20% tax on European Union goods.

According to Trump, the imposition of tariff on these countries is to strengthen the US economy.

He has reiterated since assumption in office that the American economy has suffered for many years to save others and it is the time these nations also support the USA.

He described the long-stand tax waiver for other countries as  looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered which according to him, will not going to happen anymore.

“We can’t repeat this thing again, America has been cheated by these nations.” Trump said.

Donald Trump has also championed that America and its citizens should be the first beneficially of anything that enhances the development of a country and improves the lives of individuals.

Trump tariff imposition has affected many countries, especially the developing ones which Ghana is not excluded from.
