NIA to begin issuance of backlogged Ghana Cards in Greater Accra from April 7

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will begin the issuance of printed backlog and first-time registration of Ghana Cards in the Greater Accra Region starting Monday, April 7, 2025.

In a press release issued by the Acting Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, the NIA stated that the exercise will take place at all its District Offices across Greater Accra.

This initiative targets Ghanaians who applied for the first issuance, replacement, or update of personal records from June 2023 but have not yet received their cards. According to the NIA, affected applicants can now visit the respective district offices where they registered to collect their cards.

The Authority also  through the statement is encouraging all Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who have not yet registered for the Ghana Card to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting any NIA District Office in the region beginning April 7 to complete their registration.

The statement further stressed that both the issuance of the printed backlog and first-time registration services are completely free of charge. The public is strongly advised to report any staff member who demands money for these services.

However, the NIA clarified that services related to card replacement and updates of personal records remain payable at the District Offices.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every Ghanaian possesses a Ghana Card, which serves as a vital tool for identification and access to essential services.

Issuance of Printed Backlog of Ghana Cards Begins in the Greater Accra Region on Monday 7ᵗʰ April 2025.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) wishes to inform the public that the issuance of printed backlog and first-time registration of Ghana Cards will begin in all NIA District Offices in the Greater Accra Region on Monday, 7th April 2025.

All Ghanaians who applied for the first issuance, replacement, or update of personal records from June 2023 in Greater Accra and have not yet received their cards are assured that, effective Monday, 7th April 2025, the issuance of the Ghana Cards will begin at the respective District Offices (in Greater Accra) where they registered.

Additionally, all Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who have not yet registered for the Ghana Card are encouraged to visit any NIA District Office in the Greater Accra Region starting Monday, 7th April 2025, to get registered.

The NIA would like to emphasize that the issuance of the printed backlog of Ghana Cards and first-time issuance (new registration) at all NIA District Offices are FREE of charge. The public is urged to report any NIA staff who demands a fee in exchange for these services.

Card Replacement and Update of Personal Records Services remain payable at the District Offices.

The National Identification Authority remains committed to ensuring that all Ghanaians possess the Ghana Card for the purposes of identification.
