Black Queens Head Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has shared his excitement after their 1-0 friendly win over Senegal on Saturday, April 5, 2025 ahead of this July’s TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
According to him, they knew before the game that it would be a tough one for them but they managed to secured a win.
“Of course, this is professional football, and you are always happy when you win. For us, one of the most important things was to win the game. We knew before the game that it would be a tough one for us, a tough away game. We knew that the Senegal could be physical. I felt the start was pretty good I would say the first 30 minutes and we also scored a goal, beautiful one and exactly how we want to play the game with the perfect cross. Evelyn came from the number 10 position with a great header, we started the game well.” He said in an interview.
He said the game changed completely after they had a red card.
“At the end of the first half, we came to the game with a physical style of play, with more stops, more of the Senegalese way of playing. We came to conclusion that we need to play football on the ground, play a little faster but we didn’t. So earlier on in the second half we had a red card and from that time, it was a completely different game.” Kim Lars stated.
Adding that “I think it is a good team, I felt that it is always difficult to compare two different styles because I am feeling we are in a better team on the pitch but the red card changed the game completely.”
He also commended Africa football saying it is beautiful.
” I am proud of Africa football and is something I am enjoying. The football is beautiful, I like that maybe sometimes the tactics is not perfect but is is beautiful. So many players are good with the ball”
