The Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Alexander Twum Barimah, has revealed that the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, is leaving the Commission with no choice but to arrest him, following his refusal to cooperate with investigations into allegations of drug trafficking.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour recently made bold claims alleging the involvement of certain individuals in drug trafficking activities. According to him, the two aircraft, Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov 12B, arrived in the country carrying illicit substances and large sums of money.
These allegations drew the attention of President John Dramani Mahama, calling on the state security agencies to expedite investigations into the issues raised by the member of Parliament and ranking member of the Defence Committee.
However, in an interview on Joy News’ AM show which was monitored by Elvisanokyenew.net, Alexander Twum Barimah, disclosed that the legislature has so far failed to engage with the appropriate authorities, despite multiple efforts to invite him to provide further information to back his allegations.
”The national security coordinator was coordinating the team that was going to investigate the matter since the President issued a directives, and I knew very well that he was going to be asked to appear before us and give us every information.
“That is the starting point of every investigation. The one who is saying whatever must first appear before you, give you every information that he has or she has and based on that, persons that need to be called, agencies that need to be called will then be called afterwards. That is supposed to be the starting point.” He stated
Mr. Barimah further disclosed that despite efforts by the Narcotics Control Commission to get Rev. Ntim Fordjour in assisting with the investigation, he has reportedly stated on various media platforms that he would not honor any invitation by NACOC or the investigative team, even asserting that he could not be arrested.
The NACOC Deputy Director-General stated unequivocally that the Commission may be compelled to take action if the current stance continues. According to him the matter has escalated beyond the scope of NACOC and now falls under the jurisdiction of national security agencies.
“I’ve heard him saying on other platforms that even if we invite him, he will not appear, in fact even last Saturday he was saying that we can’t arrest him.
“I stated this morning on the platform that the way he’s going about his things, he will leave us with no option than to go after him, as in arrest him.
“This is not just a matter of NACOC, it is a matter of National Security, and the coordinator is coordinating all the security agencies in this country. So, if he is to be arrested, it will not be done by NACOC but by the appropriate agencies,” he stated.
