Brooklyn-Based Methodist Guild offsets GHC10,296 in medical bills for patients at Techiman Holy Family Hospital

The Ghana Wesley United Methodist Guild, Brooklyn, has brought much-needed relief to several patients at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital by offsetting outstanding hospital bills totaling GHC10,296.00.

The donation was part of its mission to provide practical support to the less fortunate, particularly those facing healthcare-related challenges.

The donation at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital was led by Mr. Alex Kwesi Owoahene Acheampong, Treasurer of the Ghana Wesley United Methodist Guild, Brooklyn, who doubles as the USA National Vice President of the Methodist Guild, and Mrs. Joyce Osei Tutu, Secretary of the Methodist Guild, Brooklyn.

They made the donation on behalf of the Resident Pastor of the Ghana Wesley United Methodist Church, 2017 Beverly road, Brooklyn New York, Rev. Dr. Angel Abakah, President of the Ghana Wesley United Methodist Guild, Brooklyn, Brother Kingsley Owusu, Vice President, Sister Elizabeth Obed Baisel, executives and members of the Guild, and the entire congregation.

Mr. Alex Kwesi Owoahene Acheampong, in an interview with the media after their kind gesture explained that their donation was inspired by biblical teachings and a desire to share God’s love through actions.

“As Christians, it is our responsibility to support those in need, as it is written in Matthew 25:43: ‘I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ As faithful followers of Christ, it is ingrained in us to care for those who are in dire need of our help.” He said

He further disclosed that their act of giving was rooted in faith, adding that they believe their donation to patients at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital will open the door to God’s blessings upon their association.

“The Bible clearly states that whoever helps the needy will be rewarded by God. Therefore, we believe that through our donations, God will deliver us from temptations and accidents, and He will make us a blessing in all our endeavors.” He said.

The Deputy Matron of the Techiman Holy Family Hospital, Mr. Asamoah Rubin, on behalf of the hospital, expressed deep appreciation for the timely support. He explained that although the hospital is accredited by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), it continues to struggle with unpaid bills.

“We are very grateful to the Ghana Wesley United Methodist Guild, Brooklyn, for coming to our aid with their generosity. There are many hospitals within Techiman, but they chose to make their donation to Holy Family Hospital, and for that, we are truly grateful.” Mr. Rubin stated.

He further explained how unpaid bills have strained the hospital’s operations. “Over the years, we have recorded a large number of unpaid bills, which has affected our ability to purchase consumables and provide effective healthcare to our patients. Although we are an NHIS-accredited facility, not all bills are covered by NHIS. This kind gesture from Ghana Wesley United Methodist Guild, Brooklyn, will not only help the patients but also benefit the hospital as a whole.”

Mr. Rubin also used the opportunity to call on other organizations and benevolent individuals to follow the Ghana Wesley United Methodist Guild’s, Brooklyn example.

“We would like to use this opportunity to appeal to other institutions and well-meaning Ghanaians to come to our aid. There are many patients in the hospital who are ready to be discharged but cannot afford to pay their bills and are, therefore, still here.” He explained

Some of the beneficiaries, visibly emotional, shared their joy and appreciation. One patient remarked, “I didn’t know how I was going to leave the hospital or where help would come from. Today, I feel like a burden has been lifted.”

Another said, “I had no idea how I was going to pay my bills or leave the hospital. This help came at the perfect time. I’m so grateful to the Ghana Wesley United Methodist Guild, Brooklyn for remembering people like us,” said one of the emotional beneficiaries.
