Minority Caucus urges government to provide immediate assistance to Adum traders affected by fire

The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has called on the government to swiftly allocate funds from the contingency fund to assist traders at Adum, who were recently devastated by a fire that destroyed their livelihoods.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21, destroyed several shops and goods worth millions of Ghana cedis, leaving many traders devastated.

In a visit to the affected traders on Monday, April 14, Afenyo-Markin expressed deep concern over the financial strain the fire has caused the traders and urged the government to act immediately to provide relief. As part of the Minority Caucus’ support, they donated 200,000 GHS to help the traders recover from the disaster.

“I take this opportunity to make a humble plea to the government of Ghana, that looking at the effect of the situation we find here, obviously the traders are suffering. We know the commitment government made in some other areas.” He said.

The Efutu Member of Parliament urged government to release funds from the Contingency Fund to support the victims.

“We urge the government to take funds from the contingency fund and immediately come to the rescue of the suffering traders of Adum. If the government is indeed committed, I believe that within a year, it will be able to help reconstruct the affected stores.” he said

The fire at Adum has left many traders struggling to recover, and the donation from the Minority Caucus aims to offer some relief as they continue to advocate for government intervention.
