Residents of Atwima Nwabiagya South in the Ashanti region, have commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, for his bold initiative to organize a massive regional cleanup exercise as part of activities marking the Ashanti Festival (AshantiFest 2025).
The exercise, which took place across various communities within the Ashanti Region, saw an overwhelming response from residents in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, particularly in Nkawie, where the cleanup was held at strategic locations including the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital, Assembly streets, principal roads, lorry parks, and the local market. Community members actively participated in removing debris, cleaning choked gutters, and beautifying their environment.
Nkawiehene, Otumfour Brempong Oheneba Nana Kwame Akoto, after the exercise expressed satisfaction with both the initiative and the community’s enthusiastic response. According to him, although the community regularly engages in cleanup activities, the one initiated by the Regional Minister was particularly impressive.
“On days like this, we the chiefs usually rest and clean our communities in preparation for the Akwasidae. However, today’s cleanup exercise is quite different because it was initiated by a directive from the new Ashanti Regional Minister for a region-wide cleanup. I came here to supervise the exercise, and I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far.,” he said.
He added, “Almost all the residents of the community came to join in the exercise, which is a very good sign that they are patriotic. I will encourage the Regional Minister to continue with this initiative because I believe it will help keep the region clean.”
The Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Eric Anarfi also praised the impressive turnout and encouraged residents to continue supporting the Municipal Assembly whenever the need arises.
“I am very pleased with the number of people that showed up for the cleanup exercise, this is what we expect from our people that they will support the assembly whenever the need arises.” He said.
He also urged residents not to limit such activities to only special occasions. “I would like to encourage the people of Atwima Nwabiagya and Ghanaians at large not to wait for a particular day to engage in a cleanup exercise,” he said. “Instead, they should make it a regular practice to clean their surroundings. By doing so, we can maintain a clean and healthy environment.”
The Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Abu Sadick and other constituency executives, hailed Hon Dr. Frank Amoakohene for his efforts in initiating the cleanup exercise.
“The Regional Minister deserves to be applauded, as we have never witnessed such a massive cleanup exercise in Nkawie before. This initiative will go a long way in keeping the region clean, and we truly appreciate it.
“What the Minister has done is very impressive. It is clear that he is committed to maintaining cleanliness in the region, and we the youth are fully behind him. We also extend our gratitude to the Coordinating Director and all the security service personnel who participated.
“The Regional Minister is doing a fantastic job, and I believe that if he continues like this, the Ashanti Region will become the cleanest region in the country. We are fully behind him and will continue to support his efforts.” They told our reporter.
The cleanup exercise under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene has been widely praised as timely and impactful, with many hoping it will be institutionalized as a regular feature of community life in the Ashanti Region.
