Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak has taking at a swipe at Chief Executive Officer at Goldbod Sammy Gyamfi for giving the founder of the Heaven Way Church and former fetish priestess, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa alleged $800 dollars.
According to him, Sammy Gyamfi’s action does not only undermine government office holders but will have dire consequences on the local currency.
He said the country is adopting means to curb business owners charging in foreign-currency to help stabilize the cedi so it is unacceptable for a government office holder to do that.
“You cannot defend or justify a public office holder giving away forex, especially at a time the cedi is doing well. Dashing foreign currency, even if well-earned, could undermine the local currency and economy. Already, we are grappling with schools, hotels, property owners and others charging in USD.” He said.
Adding that government office holders are required to prioritize national interests and demonstrate confidence in the cedi.
Ras Mubarak believes Sammy Gyamfi’s action contradicts government regulations and can negatively affect the local currency.
“On Sammy Gyamfi & ‘Agrada. For government office holders, it’s expected that they prioritize national interests and demonstrate confidence in our country’s economy and currency. Sammy Gyamfi’s error of judgement could be perceived as a lack of confidence in the cedi. It contradicts government regulations. Such action could lead to negative impact on the cedi’s value or stability.” He wrote on Facebook.
The former lawmaker also suggested that Ghana Revenue Authority must chase Agradaa to pay gift tax on the said amount she received from Sammy Gyamfi.
“On Mama Pat ‘Agrada,’ she has to pay gift tax. It’s the law. The Ghana Revenue Authority must go after Agrada for the tax component on the gift.” He stated..
