The Principal of Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Prof. Frederick Anaba, has appeald to individuals, organizations, and stakeholders to come to the aid of the institution as it battles pressing infrastructural and safety challenges that threaten to hinder academic excellence and student welfare.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Prof. Anaba highlighted several key concerns affecting the day-to-day operations of the College, calling for urgent attention and support to resolve them.
He explained that the College currently lacks a well-functioning ICT lab, a situation which forces the school to bus students from Techiman to Sunyani to take their examinations.”.
“We are currently facing a number of challenges, particularly regarding infrastructure. At the moment, we do not have a fully functioning ICT lab where students can sit and take their exams. As I mentioned earlier, transporting students from Techiman to Sunyani for exams is not easy. During examinations, it is important to have a familiar and conducive environment that allows students to feel confident and focused in order to perform well.” He stated
He further disclosed that the College, which recently introduced Public Health and Midwifery programs, is also struggling with classroom space to accommodate Midwifery students. According to him, second-year students in the Midwifery program currently have no classroom for the upcoming semester, although the College’s management is working to prepare a suitable space for their classes.
“In terms of academics, we have recently introduced Public Health and Midwifery programs. However, for the Midwifery program, the second-year students currently do not have a classroom for the next semester. We are working quickly to organize and prepare a space so that they can have a proper place to attend their classes.” He disclosed
Prof. Frederick Anaba also touched on security and campus safety. He revealed that the College is in the process of erecting a perimeter wall to safeguard the campus. “We are also in the process of building a wall to fence the College. So far, we have completed the front portion and are now working on extending it. Currently, the College is not properly fenced, and this has allowed farmers and other individuals to pass through the campus as a shortcut to their farms. We believe that once the wall is completed, this issue will be resolved, and the campus will be more secure and private.”
He continued, “Another major challenge is the road that leads from Krobo town to the school. The route is not in good condition, and this poses a security risk, especially at night, there have been incidents where students have been attacked on that road. We have advised students not to walk alone, particularly in the evenings, and to move in groups for their safety. While there is some street lighting, we continue to emphasize the importance of staying vigilant.”
Prof. Anaba’s appeal comes at a time when the College is being widely recognized for academic excellence, recently producing the highest number of distinctions in the 2024 Nursing and Midwifery Diploma Exams. Despite this remarkable achievement, the challenges threaten to slow down the College’s progress and impact the quality of training provided to future healthcare professionals.
The Principal seized the occasion to appeal for support from the public in helping the College address these challenges.
“We need support from individuals, philanthropists, alumni, and organizations. With a little help, we can continue to provide quality education in a safe and well-resourced environment for our students.” He said
