The Second Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono East Region, Baba Mohammed Abdulai, has taken a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that the party is beginning to fall apart just months into its administration.
According to him, the government’s failure to deliver on key promises, particularly the much-touted 24-hour economy policy, is a clear evidence of a faltering administration.
“Things have started falling apart in the NDC. So far, the government has failed to fulfill its numerous promises to the good people of Ghana—especially their much-publicized promise of implementing a 24-hour economy. It is now clear to many Ghanaians that there is a significant difference between the NDC and the NPP.” He said.
He disclosed that the current administration has done little to distinguish itself from the corruption allegations it previously leveled against the NPP. “The NDC spent years accusing members of the NPP, particularly appointees of the erstwhile Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration of corruption and misconduct. However, what we have witnessed in just the first four months of their return to power is even worse,” he said.
His comments come in the wake of a viral video showing Sammy Adu Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer and Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), handing an undisclosed amount of U.S. dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa.
The video stirred public outrage, with civil society groups and opposition figures calling for Mr. Gyamfi’s dismissal, citing a potential breach of the Foreign Exchange Act and ethical codes governing public appointees.
Despite the controversy, President John Dramani Mahama announced that no disciplinary action would be taken against Mr. Gyamfi. Supporting the decision, NDC stalwart and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Hon. Isaac Adongo, defended the CEO, while the party’s Deputy Communications Director, Malik Basintale, dismissed the criticism.
Speaking on TV3, Mr. Basintale said, “If possessing a dollar is a crime in Ghana, then Forex Bureaux should turn into chop bars.”
The Second Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono East Region, however, insists that this scandal, coupled with the administration’s failed promises, is evidence of misgovernance and disrespect to the Ghanaian electorate.
“Just recently, we all saw a video circulating of the NDC’s National Communications Officer and Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Adu Gyamfi, handing out dollars not to just anyone, but to a self-styled evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
“We all know the controversial background of Nana Agradaa. Yet, despite this, the NDC appears to be comfortably associated with her to the extent that Sammy Gyamfi gave her $10,000 in cash. This is a clear indication that the NDC has no respect for the Ghanaian people, and they have already failed the very citizens who entrusted them with power.” He disclosed
