Health professional urges expectant mothers to prioritize antenatal care
A health professional at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital, Addison Don Nikoi, has advised all expectant mothers to make antenatal care a top priority in order to ensure safe deliveries and healthy babies.
In an interview with the media, Mr. Don Nikoi explained the importance of seeking medical attention as soon as pregnancy is detected.
He noted that antenatal care services not only include routine medical checks, but also offer counseling and other essential support to pregnant women.
“I would advise every woman that as soon as they realize they are pregnant, they should visit the hospital for antenatal care. Through antenatal care, we can identify any health conditions that may affect the development of the fetus. We also provide counseling and other essential services as part of antenatal care.” He disclosed
However, he expressed concern about the growing issue of self-medication among expectant mothers. He urged pregnant women to take advantage of antenatal clinics and refrain from self-medication, as it can lead to the death of their unborn baby or even endanger their own lives..
“One major challenge we face, especially among pregnant women, is self-medication. We want expectant mothers to understand that self-medicating can lead to the loss of their unborn child or in severe cases, both the mother and the baby could die.
“Therefore, I encourage all expectant mothers to make it a priority to attend antenatal clinics. This is the best way to ensure a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery without complications.”
