President Mahama assures nursing trainees of payment of allowance arrears

President John Dramani Mahama has assured nursing trainees across the country that all unpaid allowance arrears dating back to January 2025 will be fully settled.

The President gave this reassurance on Wednesday during a community engagement at the Kintampo College of Health and Well-Being, as part of his nationwide thank-you tour.

Addressing a gathering of students, faculty, and residents, President Mahama acknowledged the concerns surrounding the delay in allowance payments and disclosed his government’s commitment to ensuring timely disbursement going forward.

“On the issue of alawa, let me assure you that the minister has made adequate provision in the budget for the payment of allowances and the allowances will be paid from January arrears.” He stated

H.E. John Dramani Mahama further explained that the delay was due to ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Finance to establish a more reliable and sustainable payment structure.

According to the former President, under the new arrangement, the allowances will be paid through the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, aligning trainee disbursements with the regular monthly salary schedule for public sector workers.

“What has delayed it is that the minister is putting in a system so that you’ll be paid through the Controller and Accountant General, so that every month when workers receive their salaries, trainees will also receive their allowances.” He said.

President Mahama stressed that once the new system is operational, the government will clear all arrears dating back to January, ensuring no trainee is left behind.

“When that is done, you receive your allowances every month and then we’ll pay you the arrears from January until the time you started receiving the allowances.” He disclosed
