Techiman North: DCE intensifies public education on tax compliance to boost development

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Techiman North, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, has announced a series of strategic initiatives aimed at deepening public awareness of the importance of tax payment and strengthening the district’s revenue collection systems.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Adom Johnson disclosed that the Assembly’s main source of funding is its IGF, which is essential for financing key development projects across the district. He explained that the Assembly has significantly intensified public education efforts to encourage tax compliance among residents.

“We have intensified public education on the importance of tax payment. I have met with the Tomato Growers Association, transport operators, and traders. In the coming weeks, I plan to visit churches and other community groups to further educate the public on their civic responsibility to pay taxes.” He stated.

The DCE stressed that paying taxes is not only crucial for local development but also a constitutional and civic duty of every citizen. According to him, improving public understanding through dialogue and education is the most sustainable way to build a culture of voluntary compliance.

“Paying taxes not only enables the Assembly to undertake developmental projects but is also a constitutional and civic duty. I am confident that through education and community engagement, we can foster a culture of compliance.” He explained.

He revealed plans to organize training workshops aimed at enhancing the communication and engagement skills of revenue collectors. According to him, these sessions are intended to equip collectors with the necessary tools to effectively handle public inquiries and promote greater accountability.

Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson stated that performance targets have been set for each revenue collector, and progress will be measured by comparing revenue figures before and after the recent issuance of official ID cards and branded vests.

“Furthermore, I plan to organize capacity-building workshops for our tax collectors. These workshops will enhance their communication skills and prepare them to effectively address public concerns. I have also introduced performance targets for each collector, and we will assess improvements in revenue generation by comparing the results before and after the introduction of ID cards and vests
