The President of Patient Right Watch, Isaac Ofori Gyeabour, has urged for a careful balance between upholding the dignity of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and ensuring the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) fulfills its legal obligations.
This follows the emergence of a disputed medical report, dated May 14, 2025, allegedly signed by Dr. Ahmed Abdalrhim, an internal medicine specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The report, which surfaced online on Tuesday, June 3, suggests that Mr. Ofori-Atta is medically unfit to travel or participate in ongoing investigations.
However, the OSP has firmly denied receiving any such documentation from the former Minister or his legal representatives.
Addressing the media, Mr. Ofori Gyeabour explained the importance of balancing constitutional rights with the legal process. He reiterated that while the OSP has the mandate to investigate alleged wrongdoing, it must also take into account the health and personal dignity of individuals involved, especially when credible medical concerns are raised.
“If you look at Article 19, obviously it indicates fair trial. A fair trial means that all the due process must be taken through, so the OSP clearly is doing its job.
“However, the welfare and the dignity of the patient too is also important. If you look at Article 15, which is a guarantee against the person’s dignity, so it calls for a delicate balance between welfare and dignity of the former Finance Minister and then obviously the OSP, is also doing its work, so it calls for a delicate balance.” He said.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has once again declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted person after he failed to appear in person before the office as directed.
