The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has called for unity and reflection within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
According to him, now is not the time for blame games but rather a period for learning lessons and charting a collective path forward.
in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse which was monitored by Elvisanokyenews.net, Samuel Abu Jinapor disclosed that electoral defeat is often the result of a complex web of factors and should not be pinned on any one individual. He stressed that the loss should be seen as a shared responsibility among all members of the party
“Something dramatic, something catastrophic happened to the MPP in 2024 but you lose elections based on several factors and I am to look forward. I am not to look backwards, I look backwards to take lessons and therefore, I’m not going to get involved in blame game.
“When you lose elections, it will be as a result of multiple reasons and the responsibility for that will be a collective responsibility. It will not be an individual’s responsibility and so I will say it is a collective responsibility of all of us that put us in a position where we lost the election in a manner that we did.” He said.
The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee stated that despite the setback, he remains optimistic about the party’s future. According to him, the current tensions within the NPP will subside as the party begins its internal processes to elect new national executives and a presidential candidate
“Now having said that, look, a lot that is happening today about the NPP will all subside, God willing, when we go through our internal processes of electing national executives and the presidential candidate. I am very optimistic that a lot of it will subside, and the party will regroup and rally together and put ourselves together to be able to go for the crucial election.” He stated.
