The Techiman South Municipal Education Director, Pastor Isaac Amankwah, has issued a strong appeal to all 2025 BECE candidates to uphold integrity and avoid any form of examination malpractice as they prepare to sit for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination.
His remarks come in response to a troubling trend highlighted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which ranks the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions as the top three regions with the highest cases of examination malpractice from 2021 to 2023.
The caution comes after WAEC’s Head of Humanities, Mr. Daniel Nii Dodoo, disclosed at the National Stakeholders Conference on Examination Malpractices that these regions consistently topped the list in cheating incidents at both basic and secondary school levels.
Speaking to the media, Pastor Isaac Amankwah disclosed that the issue has stained the reputation of the Bono East Region and called on the current batch of candidates to help reverse the trend.
“It has been reported that the Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East regions record the highest cases of examination malpractices in the country. This is deeply concerning for us in the Bono East region.
“We hope that the 2025 batch of BECE candidates will help redeem our image. I urge parents to trust in the learning abilities of their wards and to refrain from encouraging any form of examination malpractice.” He said.
He stressed the importance of community involvement, particularly urging parents to support the Education Directorate’s efforts by discouraging unethical behavior.
“Parents should not come to the examination centers. The learners successfully wrote their mock examinations without assistance or any malpractice. I therefore appeal to parents to support us in advising their wards to uphold integrity during the exams.
“The negative perception of our region due to examination malpractices has greatly affected Techiman. We are hopeful that this year’s candidates will help restore our reputation.
