OFFICIAL: Inter appoints Cristian Chivu as new coach

Inter Milan have officially appointed Cristian Eugen Chivu as their new head coach, signing the former Nerazzurri defender to a two-year contract that runs until June 30, 2027. The club confirmed the news today, marking the beginning of a new chapter following the departure of Simone Inzaghi.

The 44-year-old Romanian tactician returns to the San Siro with a deep connection to the club not only as a former player but also as a long-serving coach within Inter’s youth system. Chivu is no stranger to the Inter faithful. He wore the black and blue from 2007 to 2014, featuring prominently in José Mourinho’s iconic treble-winning side in 2010. After hanging up his boots, he began shaping the club’s next generation, coaching Inter’s youth teams from 2018 to 2024, including a successful stint with the Primavera squad

Chivu’s stock rose sharply after taking over struggling Parma midway through the 2024/25 Serie A season. In a short but impactful spell, he stabilized the team, guided them out of the relegation zone, and earned praise for his pragmatic yet progressive approach.

Chivu inherits a talented Inter squad still competing at the highest levels in Italy and Europe. With strong institutional ties, tactical promise, and deep-rooted passion for the badge, he is seen as a long-term project manager capable of combining legacy and innovation.

“Inter is proud to announce the appointment of Cristian Chivu as head coach of the first team. A champion on the field and a committed coach off it, Chivu embodies the values of our club and is ready to lead us into a new era of ambition and identity.” Inter Milan club’s statement read.
