The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has listed 20 things they believe are sins the NDC-Mahama government has committed against Ghanaians since assumption of power.
Among other things are some promises the NDC made prior to the 2024 elections and has failed to fulfil them.
The Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah posted the list on X.
Below are the 20 lists of the NDC-Mahama government sins:
*The sins of the NDC-Mahama government in the past six months against the people of Ghana*
1. The passage of the insensitive, incompetent, and lazy D-levy;
2. The Revocation of duly earned employment affecting over 30,000 Ghanaians;
3. The government is failing to combat illegal mining, galamsey. Ghana’s rivers have worsened, and forests are under siege. Notwithstanding the devastation, President Mahama has refused to declare a state of emergency to give impetus to the fight to save our rivers and forests.
4. President Mahama has failed to remove the COVID-19 levy as promised in the 2024 campaign;
5. The dollar gifting gate;
6. The government has disregarded the concerns of our hardworking nurses and Midwives. Instead of working with the GRNMA to resolve the impasse, the government has resorted to calling retired nurses to replace the over 120k active nurses and midwives;
7. The return of dumsor, thus the D-levy on the already burdened Ghanaian;
8. Failure to remove the 5% Communications Service Tax (CST). The cost of internet is scheduled to go up by 10% in July. Meanwhile, the Minister has given up saying there is nothing government can do about the cost of internet data;
9. The extension of the Special Import Levy until 2028, which means that the cost of living will continue to go up; 10. The government has proven to be dishonesty in much of its dealings with Ghanaians:
a. The government in opposition promised it would remove taxes but failed to do so honestly;
b. The government removed E-levy, which exempted the vast majority of Ghanaians, only to introduce a D-levy that affects all Ghanaians, including unborn babies;
c. The government promised not to reward ECG’s inefficiencies with tariffs but has done worse with the passage of the sneaky, insensitive, and lazy levy to reward the incompetence of the government;
11. The government has engaged in a systematic witch-hunting of its political opponents while clearing NDC partisans and affiliates of all corruption and related charges;
12. The government painfully abandoned Ghanaian pilgrims to their fate in Saudi Arabia;
13. The government aggravated the cost of living for Ghanaians by increasing electricity and water tariffs by 14.75% and 4.02%, respectively;
14. Ministries, departments, and agencies are starved of funds to discharge their obligations to Ghanaians, which means Ghanaians are going without or with the bare minimum, especially in the health sector.
15. It’s sinful for the government to budget GHS 2.71 in compensation for the Jubilee House but refuse to pay nurses and midwives their agreed conditions of service;
16. The government offered a disappointing 10% raise in base pay for Ghanaian workers compared to about a 27% hike in essentials, such as water, electricity, and fuel prices;
17. The government has abused the rights of some Ghanaians, including Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Ken Ofori-Atta, Wontumi, etc., in the name of law enforcement and fighting corruption;
18. The removal of the Chief Justice is an audacious political effort by the government to undermine and subjugate the judiciary to the whims and caprices of the executive, the President;
19. The government’s harassment has led to a state of fright and uncertainty among political opponents of the NDC-Mahama Administration;
20. The NDC’s rubber-stamp supermajority in Parliament readily approved the D-levy without consulting its constituents and stakeholders. This is a gross disregard for the principle of representative democracy.
*If elections were held today, the NDC would struggle to make 50% +1*
