US President Barack Obama has raised concerns over President Donald Trump’s ways of handling undocumented immigrants, especially those who were brought to the United States as children.
He said there are several ways to fix the country’s broken immigration system and still recognizes the common humanity and treating each other with dignity and respect.
“We can fix our broken immigration system while still recognizing our common humanity and treating each other with dignity and respect. In fact, it’s the only way we ever will.” He posted.
According to him, the Trump administration should consider the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which was launched on June 15, 2012 to provide temporary protection from deportation and work permits to certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.
The Black American is of the view that people in the US just want to live, work, and support their communities but the Trump administration has demonized them and been treated as enemies. Situation, he said, is not helping.
“Thirteen years ago, my administration acted to protect young people who were American in every single way but one: on paper. DACA was an example of how we can be a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. And it’s an example worth remembering today, when families with similar backgrounds who just want to live, work, and support their communities, are being demonized and treated as enemies.” Obama stated.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is considering implementing travel restrictions to 36 more countries. The affected countries includes, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
“Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia. Bhutan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, and Syria; and three countries in Oceania: Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu”
Trump has also signed an executive order to launch the first ever self-deportation program for illegal aliens. “We are making it as easy as possible for illegal aliens to leave America. Any illegal alien can simply show up at an airport and receive a free flight out of our country.”
