Minister for Food and Agriculture announces deployment of DRIP machines to improve farm roads nationwide

The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Eric Opoku, has announced that earth-moving equipment acquired under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) will soon be deployed to construct farm roads across the country.

In an interview with journalists in Kumasi on Sunday, June 15, he said the move is part of efforts by the government to ensure the smooth transportation of food from farms to communities, particularly in rural areas.

According to the Minister, the government will temporarily suspend all major road construction projects in rural areas to enable effective utilization of the DRIP equipment.

“What we intend to do is to provide all districts with the financial resources to fuel the machines and use the available equipment to develop access roads. This will make it easier to transport food from farms to communities without any difficulty.” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Asunafo South further disclosed that he recently intervened in the awarding of contracts for road construction in some rural communities.

“Just last week, some people were preparing to award contracts for the construction of roads in some rural communities. I asked them to stop because we already have the equipment. All we need to do is provide them with fuel and let them go to work.” He stated.

Hon. Eric Opuku explained that the initiative is expected to significantly boost food distribution and reduce post-harvest losses by improving access to farmlands across the country.
