Post-election poll reveals widespread blame for Nana Akufo-Addo’s role in NPP’s 2024 loss

A post-election poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has shown that a significant portion of both New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) voters blame President Nana Akufo-Addo for the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

The survey, which included insights from NPP supporters, NDC voters, and floating voters, found that 59% of NPP voters attributed the loss to Nana Akufo-Addo, while a larger 75% of NDC voters held the same view. Surprisingly, a substantial 64% of floating voters also pointed to the President as the key factor in the NPP’s defeat.

Reacting to the poll, the Executive Director and Head of Global Research at Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, disclosed that the was a cross-party consensus on who was primarily responsible for the NPP’s defeat, with respondents from different political backgrounds largely agreeing on the issue.

“We spoke to Ghanaians in general, but we also did analyze the data by party affiliations to understand what is the thought of people who are NPP sympathizers and those who are NDC sympathizers and floating voters and the rest,”

“Now, when you do that aggregation, you realize that about 59% of the blames among NPP voters again goes to Nana Addo, which is not far from the average of all voters, and then if you look at the NDC voters, about 75% were blaming Nana Addo for the defeat, and among floating voters, surprisingly, 64%,”

“So there was a cross-party agreement on who actually is to be blamed and the order doesn’t change across party lines. He said.

He went on to suggest that many respondents felt the NPP needed to listen more to its grassroots, particularly when in government.

“That is a consensus among many who you spoke to. They believe that the party needs new leadership and the party needs to listen to the grassroots a lot more, especially when they are in government.” He stated.

Mussa Dankwah advised the NDC to learn from the mistakes made by the NPP and avoid repeating those same mistakes during their tenure in office as the party in government.

“This is a lesson that I think even NDC should learn from because whatever mistakes NPP did, it’s not fair that NDC would commit the same mistake, so whatever lessons NPP is learning, the NDC must learn,” he concluded.

The poll results reveal a deep public sentiment on leadership within both major political parties and the importance of reconnecting with the electorate ahead of future elections.
