Ghanaians are ready to support the Black Stars – Sports Minister

The Member of Parliament for Buem and Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has revealed that the Black Stars players have been ‘psyched up’ and are fully aware of their mission to win back the hearts of Ghanaians.

In an interview with the media, the Minister explained that there has been a positive shift in public sentiment and growing support for the national team, following recent performances against Chad and Madagascar in the World Cup qualifiers.

According to him, this growing interest is a sign that the efforts being made within the team and management are yielding results.

“One thing that is clear now, we have psyched the players up and they know what it is that they are up to. Ghanaians, I think, are willing to bring back the love, and you saw it the last time they played against Chad here in Accra and even when we went to Morocco against Madagascar in the way match, the interest that Ghanaians showed in the Black Stars all of a sudden have changed.

“It means that something is being done right, and whatever it is we would have to carry on. My message to the players has been very simple,  the country is behind you. Yes we will criticize you because if all of us are saying only good things about you then it is not normal.” He said.

He further disclosed that, in his meeting with the players, he told them that criticism is part of the process and should be viewed as a reflection of the passion Ghanaians have for the team, while also reminding them of the immense support they receive from the nation.

“Some people must see something completely wrong and should be ready and willing to voice it out irrespective of what the consequences it will be, so if you are unfortunate to hear the criticism just multiply that by hundred and that is the number of persons who are saying the good things, they praising you because mostly in this world praises are not normally reported.

“Know that when you lift your leg to kick a ball that over 30 million Ghanaians have their hands holding your leg to support you. If you want to hit the ball, don’t be afraid that the speed at which the ball is coming may be too much for me. Have the confidence that Ghanaians have their hands behind you supporting your head to hit that ball.” He stated

Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams used the occasion to urge players that will be selected for the next Black Stars match to believe in themselves, regardless of public opinion.

“If you have been selected, don’t listen to anybody who says that you are not the most qualified. See yourself as the best and that you are indeed the best and get out there and play that way.” He said
