Justice Salia Abdulai, a former Assembly Member for Kenten in the Techiman South Metropolis and a former Bamiri Branch Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on politicians and the general public to use their positions of influence to support and uplift those around them.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Justice Salia explained that true leadership is measured not by the accumulation of personal wealth or power, but by the positive impact one has on their community.
According to him, the success of a leader is not achieved solely by personal effort, but through the grace of God and the unwavering support of their communities. He disclosed that politicians, in particular, must remember that it is the people who vote them into office and, therefore, they owe their service to these constituents.
“My advice to the people of Techiman, Bono East, and Ghana at large is not to abuse their authority, but rather to use the power that comes with it to help and support those around them.
“We should always remember that without the grace of God, we would not have reached where we are today. Beyond God’s grace, it also takes the support of people around us to rise to our current positions. Politicians must never forget that it was their constituents who voted them into power. Therefore, they should use their authority to benefit the people in their communities,” he stated.
Justice Salia, drawing from his own experience, shared an inspiring example from his time in office. As the first elected Assembly Member for Kenten Anyinabirem, he recounted how, after receiving a motorcycle donation from the late President John Evans Atta Mills intended for Assembly Members, he chose instead to donate his motorcycle to his then Unit Committee Chairman.
According to him, it is God’s will for people in positions of influence to use their power to support those around them, and such practices come with great rewards, even for generations yet unborn.
“I was the first elected Assembly Member for Kenten Anyinabirem. During my tenure, when the late President Atta Mills donated motorcycles to all Assembly Members, I chose to donate mine to my then Unit Committee Chairman.
“This is to say that I understand the benefits of what I am advocating. When we are fortunate enough to be in positions of opportunity, we should not be selfish. Rather, we should do everything possible to uplift the people around us. That is the will of God, and by doing so, both we and our future generations will be blessed.” He said
