The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Hon. Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, has defended the Minority’s participation in the recent #SaveOurDemocracy demonstration.
According to him the protest was a necessary response to what he describes as a deliberate and premeditated attempt by the government to remove the Chief Justice.
In an interview with the media, Hon. Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo expressed concern over comments made by some members of the current administration, which he believes indicate a clear agenda to oust the Chief Justice, even before any formal process was initiated.
“If you follow this process, with the intend to remove the Chief Justice. I can tell you comments from some actors of the current government prior to even the process starting, tells you that straight away there is an agenda, there is an orchestration. We have heard people coming out clearly to say that the Chief Justice will be removed, unequivocally. They say boldly, so they intend to remove the Chief Justice.
“You see that this had already been orchestrated, it’s just about going through the process and you don’t have to wait for people to enact what they have plotted before you start acting. We’ve heard this well before the process actually started and even starting the process people were so confident both to come out to make these statements that they will remove the Chief Justice.” He said
According to the MP, these developments signal that the current situation goes beyond a routine legal or constitutional process, and instead reflects a deeper intent to undermine the independence of the judiciary.
“You see that definitely it’s not just a process. It is an intent to remove the Chief Justice by fair or foul means, and whatever counter-arguments that the coalition have put across all this while have fallen on deaf ears, so we have no option than to demonstrate.” He stated
