Keep Techiman Clean campaign intensifies focus on lorry station to enhance city’s image

The Techiman Bouyem Benkumhene and conveyor of the Keep Techiman Clean campaign, Nana Ameyaw Antwi Boasiako II, has revealed that the main focus of the ongoing environmental sanitation efforts has been shifted to the Techiman lorry station.

He explained that the main lorry station is the first place visitors encounter upon arriving in Techiman, and therefore, it must always be kept clean to create a positive first impression.

Speaking about the campaign’s progress, Nana Ameyaw Antwi Boasiako II disclosed that the campaign, which began with radio advocacy about four years ago, is now shifting its focus to active fieldwork, with greater emphasis on close monitoring and the enforcement of sanitation laws

“It has been four to five years since the launch of the Keep Techiman Clean campaign. Initially, efforts focused on radio education to raise awareness about the importance of environmental cleanliness. However, we later realized the need to intensify on-the-ground activities.

“While we plan to resume our radio advocacy soon, our current priority is fieldwork, monitoring the campaign’s effectiveness, engaging closely with community members, and enforcing relevant sanitation laws and regulations to ensure the campaign’s success.” He said.

He further explained that the lorry station has emerged as a critical focal point for the campaign. According to him, despite many community members maintaining cleanliness at their homes, roadsides, and workplaces, the central public space had been repeatedly neglected,

“A key focus has been the main lorry station. While people often clean their homes, roadsides, and workplaces, neglecting this central public space undermines our efforts. Initially, even after cleaning the station in the evenings, we would find it dirty again by morning. However, after sustained engagement with traders and enforcement of sanitation rules, significant improvements have been observed.” He stated.
