Former Assembly Member applauds President Mahama for prioritizing Muslim welfare

A former Assembly Member for Kenten in the Techiman South Metropolis and ex-Bamiri Branch Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Justice Salia Abdulai, has publicly lauded His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his strong commitment to the welfare of the Muslim community in Ghana.

In an exclusive interview with our reporter during the Eid al-Adha celebrations, he commended the President for fulfilling his campaign promise by reducing the 2025 Hajj fare from last year’s GH₵75,000 to GH₵62,000. The new fare, equivalent to approximately $4,130, is now the lowest in the sub-region, making the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca significantly more accessible for Ghanaian Muslims.

“As a Muslim, I am deeply thankful to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and as a staunch member of the NDC, I am proud of the President and his government. We once had a Vice President who was a Muslim, yet during his tenure, the Hajj fare was GH₵75,000.00. Under President John Dramani Mahama, who is not even a Muslim, the fare has been reduced to GH₵62,000.00 This is a clear testament to his genuine concern for the welfare of Muslims.” He stated

Justice Salia Abdulai also praised President Mahama for adding an extra public holiday to both Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr celebrations. According to him, this gesture further underscores the former President’s respect for and recognition of Islamic traditions and the role of Muslims in national development.

“In addition to the reduction in Hajj fares, President Mahama also added an extra holiday to both Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr celebrations. We are sincerely grateful to him for his unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of Muslims in the country.” He said.
