Every assembly to receive GH₵25 million this year – Mahama assures

 

President John Dramani Mahama has assured that all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) will receive not less than GH₵25 million this year.

He said this form part of his administration to ensure that local governments are well resourced to promote development in the country.

According to him, the local government is at the heart of his government and for that matter he will make sure that they are  resourced to meet its people’s demands.

“Every assembly from the least even the smallest assembly will receive not less than GH₵25 million this year. These resources are to be applied in a way that reflects local priorities and medium term-development plans.” President Mahama gave this assurance when speaking at an orientation and training programme for MMDCEs held in Accra on Wednesday, 18 July, 2025.

Adding that the government committed  80 per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund to MMDAs this year.

“These policies are not abstract ideas; they require structural coordination and leadership to bring them to life at the district level. The 2024 budget statement outlines our financial strategy and clarifies that centralized development is our priority. We have committed  80 per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund to MMDAs this year to ensure that each assembly is resourced to meet its people’s demands.” Mr. Mahama indicated.

The president indicated that the NDC manifesto outlines a bold and people-centered agenda that puts local government at the heart of national development.

You are the first line of the economy, the clean Ghana initiatives, Clean Up Ghana campaign, Adumawura, the National Apprenticeship Programme, Mahama Cares, and Feed Ghana. and many more.” He stated.
