University of Ghana suspends all social gatherings amid COVID-19 resurgence

The University of Ghana has announced an immediate suspension of all student social gatherings following a reported resurgence of COVID-19 cases on campus.

The directive, issued by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, is aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of the university community.

In an official notice signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. the University stressed on the urgent need to curb the spread of the virus and protect students, faculty, and staff.

The suspension affects a wide range of student-led activities including week celebrations and events organized by GRASAG, SRC, JCRs, and all departmental and school associations.

“The Office of Student Affairs would like to inform all student bodies that due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect.

“GRASAG, SRC, JCR, departmental and school associations’ week celebrations/activities are therefore suspended until further notice.” The release reads.

The University has urged all student bodies and campus organizations to adhere strictly to the directive. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice.

The statement also copied key university stakeholders including the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Director of Public Affairs, Director of Safety and Security Services, and Heads of Departments and Halls.
