We all pretend in fighting corruption but there is no commitment – Asiedu Nketia laments

The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia believes the commitment and determination to fight corruption in Ghana are lacking.

According to him, Ghanaians, both at the leadership level, pretend in fighting corruption but there is no commitment and determination.

He said Ghana has all the laws that will help the country to fight against corruption but no one is willing to enforce those laws.

Speaking at a conference, General Mosquito as affectionately called stated that he doesn’t see Ghana is actually determined to fight corruption.

“I think that if we are determined to fight corruption we will get somewhere but I don’t see Ghana is actually determined to fight corruption. I don’t think that we do not have laws that will help us in the fight against corruption but the bigger problem is our determination and our commitment both at the leadership level to fight corruption.” He said.

Asiedu Nketia added that corruption is something that is affecting the development of the country and everybody is raising concerns about it and the need to fight it but the commitment is lacking.

“I think that is the major deficit in our fight against corruption, we all pretend to fight corruption but we never commit to fighting corruption. Everybody talks about the ills of corruption and the need to fight corruption but the decisions they have to take in the fight against corruption are lacking.” He lamented.

Both past and present governments have campaigned against corruption and promised to fight it but there has not been any improvement in the corruption fight.

Many stakeholders and organizations have been speaking about the importance of fighting corruption but the leaders are not committed to enforce laws that deal with corruption.

Political inference is the major reason Ghana can not take serious actions about corruption, according to these groups.
