Meet Jean-Pierre Adams, the footballer who slept for 39 years

 

The story of French professional player Jean-Pierre Adams shocked many people, especially sports fans.

The Nîmes, Nice and Paris Saint-Germain player met his untimely dea.th after his knee surgery went wrong and spent 39 years in a coma.

He got injured and was later sent to Édouard Herriot Hospital but unfortunately all the experienced doctors were on strike.

“Jean-Pierre Adams was approaching the twilight of his career in 1982 and it was in march in that year where he got injured in his knees during a training session and was sent to the Édouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon for surgery. But unfortunately, there was a problem, many of the experienced staff at the hospital were on strike. So the only anesthetic who was present at that time was attending to eight other patients.” A reporter narrated.

“Due to that incident he was supervised by a trainee doctor  who later said the task was beyond his control, between the anesthetic and the trainee, a lot of mistakes occurred which resulted in cardiac arrest and brain damage and he eventually went into a coma for 39 years.” He explained.

According to a report, “The France International was later discharged from the hospital still unconscious after fifteen (15) months. His wife Bernadette Adams took care of him until he die.d in 2021.”

Jean-Pierre Adams, the former France International who went into a coma for 39 years helped France to win 22 cups between 1972 and 1976.”

The intervention of his wife Bernadette Adams gave her many applause and names.

Meanwhile, the anesthetist who was on duty and the trainee doctor who supervised Jean-Pierre Adams were suspended for one month and were also fined $815.
