Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi has lamented the party’s priority to elect their flagbearer rather than fixing their internal problem.
He said if a flagbearer is elected today he can not campaign on anything because President Mahama is just six months in office and he is performing well so they should not rush in electing flagbearer.
“What is the rush? Even if we elect the person today, he can’t campaign, what is he going to campaign about? President Mahama has only been in office for six months, what are you going to campaign on? He (Mahama) has so much doing well, I mean, everyone is listening to him so what is the rush? He lamented.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Elvisanokyenews.net, the outspoken MP stressed that fixing the party is more important than holding early primaries.
“We should fix the party first because the party is the vehicle that will lead us into victory so if the party is not fixed and you elect this person, I can assure you this person is going to be elected and don’t have anything to do.” The former lawmaker stated.
Mr. Boakye Antwi further alleged that the NPP has hijacked its entire communication structure in favour of one candidate.
The former MP who is against former vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidature stressed that there are many things the party has to do before going to elect a flagbearer.
“They hijacked the entire communication structure, that is what is happening and they are not listening to any disincentive view. I have said before that every delegate has a four year cycle and I used my own situation as an example. So why are you using one delegate to have two election cycles? And currently we are looking at expanding the college, we are looking at clear guidelines for party appointments, there are so many things that we have to do to even get to that stage.” He indicated.
