Show Results If You Want Support – Richie Urges Creative Arts Sector

CEO of renowned record label Lynx Entertainment, Richie Mensah, popularly known as Richie, has criticized the creative arts industry for constantly calling for government support without showing results to justify it.

According to Richie, support is earned, not demanded and the creative sector must prove with results that it deserves the help it’s asking for.

“I say this all the time: stop calling for help from the government. Leave them alone, leave everyone alone, and embark on a worthy cause. When people see that, you won’t be the one calling again, they’ll be in a hurry to support you,” he told Kwame Dadzie, host of A-Z Showbiz on Joy FM.

Richie didn’t deny receiving support throughout his career, but explained that he earned it by proving his value.

“You see, I have suffered, but I have also received support and it didn’t just come like that. I proved that I deserved the support. Everyone who supported me knew they weren’t wasting their time or money.”

He added that the government has little incentive to support the creative arts sector because it hasn’t shown strong economic returns.

“The government won’t support us because, to be honest, it’s not worth their time or money. Let’s be sincere with ourselves — we have artists and media people always talking: ‘Do this for me, do this for us, we deserve this.’ Stop talking.”

Richie cited the United States as an example, saying their government supports the creative industry because it significantly contributes to the economy.
