Ghanaian musician Eugene Kwame Marfo, popularly known as Kuami Eugene, has revealed that he still considers himself a minister of God, even though he’s widely known as a secular artist.
The Angela hitmaker shared that he began his journey as a church boy, and it was in the church that he built both his faith and musical talent.
“Sometimes when I see Eugene Marfo online, especially when someone shares something about me, it reminds me of where I started and I always clarify that I’m still a minister of God,” he said.
Kuami Eugene added that he learned everything from the church, including how to play instruments like the piano, guitar, and drums.
He went on to explain that even while in school, he was actively involved in church music, often playing drums during services. However, he noted that back then, he didn’t receive the kind of support he’s getting now.
“The church helped me a lot because I learned how to play the piano, guitar, drums all from the church. And even while I was schooling, I was still doing music and playing drums for the church. But I wasn’t getting the needed push like I do today,” he emphasized.
Speaking about a turning point in his life, Kuami Eugene recalled a trip to the Volta Region that changed everything. He said it was a friend then a pupil teacher who invited him to a church program.
“She was a teacher and invited me to a three-day convention at her church as a singer. At the time, I was Minister Eugene Marfo. That was actually when I received my first pay, so big ups to that friend,” he shared.
